The golf courses of East Sussex are some of the best in the South of England. Classic heathland courses such as Royal Ashdown Forest, and Crowborough Beacon, compliment the superb parkland courses like Dale Hill. There are many golf clubs near Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings, the largest urban areas of the county, but the most famous golf courses in East Sussex are in the smaller towns and villages. The neighbouring counties of Kent, Surrey, and West Sussex together with the golf courses in East Sussex, provide some popular golfing holiday destinations in the South of England. Perhaps one of the finest examples is the links course at Rye. East Sussex is part of the South Downs, a range of moderate chalk hills which run across the southern part of the county from west to east.
