Frilford Heath Golf Club is located just south of Oxford, across glorious undulating heathland and is one of the best venues in the south of England. Rarely can a golf club offer three championship golf courses (Red, Green and Blue) that allow the opportunity to revel in their classical or modern challenge!
The original Red Course was laid out in 1908 by JH Taylor. In 2013 it hosted the English Amateur, and has hosted the European Tour 1st Stage Qualifying since 2011.
The classical Green Course is the shortest, and its layout compliments both of the other golf courses and should not be missed out on.
The Blue Course was designed by Simon Gidman and opened in 1994. The subtle greens are more undulating than on the two older courses.

Red Course

The oldest and most prestigious course at Frilford, the Red was laid out in 1908 by JH Taylor, the five times Open Champion. The course was later tweaked by long-time club professional JH Turner, but in essence, it remains Taylor's course, one of only a small number still remaining designed by A legendary figure. The Red was described by Bernard Darwin as 'both good and difficult', and it still lives up to this description. An authentic championship challenge at 7,015 yards, it offers a traditional heathland golfing experience with pushed-up greens that run fast and true and fairways that demand accurate driving if golfers are to score well. The stretch between holes five and nine is especially strong, with four hefty two shot holes and a par three that many will vote the most memorable on the course. The tee shot must carry a pond, and the elevated green is further protected by out of bounds to the rear. Seven consecutive par fours to close the round are a testing finishing stretch matched by very few courses.

Blue Course

The most recent addition at Frilford is the Blue course, which opened in 1994 to great acclaim. Oxfordshire architect Simon Gidman, took 169 acres of adjoining farmland, and sculpted a course every bit the equal of the older tracks. The new land had fewer natural features than that occupied by the Red and Green, but it still had the precious sandy soil that makes Frilford what Bernard Darwin called "a wonderful oasis in the sea of mud". Gidman used this sandy soil to build sweeping features that give the course a more modern feel than the other courses at Frilford, with hollows, swales and depressions adding to the interest. The layout explores every feature of the site and the par fives and par threes in particular all face different directions and set different tests. There are birdies to be had, even though, at 6,728 yards, the course is a considerable challenge. Equally there are two par fives - and the 600 yard monster that is the seventeenth hole is prime among them - that, without pinpoint accuracy on drive and second shot, a par will be almost impossible. The Blue course greens are more severely undulating than those of the Red or Green, and thus put a premium on putting. The bunkering too is bold and challenging. A different course it may be, but no-one who plays the Blue at Frilford will feel hard done by.

Green Course

Good Things come in small packages. As well as making alterations to the Red course, JH Turner added a new nine holes to the club portfolio before World War Two. Together with nine more, built after the war by the respected British architect CK Cotton, Turners holes form the Green course. Short the Green may be by modern standards, at only 6,015 yards. But its par of 69 - the first hole is the only par five - makes playing to handicap much harder than a golfer might expect. Four outstanding par threes include the picturesque second and sixth, and the seventeenth, which at 206 yards is the longest "short" hole on any of the Frilford courses. The loop formed by holes five to thirteen is separate from the rest of the property and has a lively peaceful feel, with gorse and birch prominent. Several strong par fours make the homeward stretch tough, but the 298 yard closing hole offers the chance of a smile-inducing finish.
