West Derby Golf Club was founded in 1896 by a group of residents intent on forming the first inland golf ‘links’ in South-West Lancashire. In 1923 the process began to increase the course from 9 to 18 holes.

West Derby has recently launched a 2009 Flexible Fairway Pass. Holders are entitled to play either 5, or 10 rounds of golf on one of the leading parkland courses in Merseyside. The scheme is ideal for golfers who feel they cannot justify full membership of a golf club, or maybe working in the area for a short period of time, but still want to play golf.
