The top courses in Hertfordshire
There are many famous golf clubs in Hertfordshire, many of which are considered championship standard golf courses, such as The Grove, a recent host of the World Golf Championship event, and Moor Park, host to the European Seniors Tour. There are a number of other superb golf courses in Hertfordshire that aren’t quite so famous. Old Fold Manor is another championship golf course and a venue for Open Qualifying. Brocket Hall is a superb golfing destination where the golf course is designed by Nick Faldo. Another one of the home counties, Hertfordshire is bordered by Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridge, and Essex, but there are a number of golf clubs in London that are considered part of Hertfordshire. The Shire, and Harpenden are two classic examples. Another superb golfing destination is Hanbury Manor, but there are also some quality public golf courses in Hertfordshire too, such as Trent Park.

Old Fold Manor Golf Club
Old Fold Manor Golf Club is home to one of the best courses in Hertfordshire, and is only 1½ miles from Junction 23 of the M25/A1M. Designed by the legendary golf course architect, Harry Colt, Old Fold Manor held Regional Qualifying for The Open Championship from 2005-2010. It has also hosted the English Seniors' Amateur, English Girls, and is now the venue for the South of England Faldo Series. Measuring 6,500 yards, the course demands concentration all the way around. Originally open heathland in nature; it now has many tree-lined fairways that make the wind direction even less predictable, and it enjoys something of a parkland feel, too. Moor Park
Located conveniently near to London, but sufficiently protected by mature trees to shield you from suburbia, the elegant High course and the exacting West course will provide a challenging test of golf in pleasant park surroundings. Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club
Few golfing venues in Europe blend the old and new so successfully than the historic Hanbury Manor, a Marriott Hotel and Country Club in Hertfordshire. The “old” is the magnificent estate itself, which since the 19th century has featured a Jacobean-style mansion and included a nine-hole parkland course designed by the legendary Harry Vardon. The “new” is the 18 holes of championship golf redesigned by Jack Nicklaus II on the original Vardon course. Batchworth Park Golf Club
Batchworth Park is a private members club that has been designed to provide a good test of golfing skill for both high and low handicappers alike. Set in 210 acres of rolling countryside, amidst six picturesque lakes is the testing Championship course. Batchworth Park is situated just two miles from the M25. From its elevated position there are fantastic views across the rolling Hertfordshire countryside. The clubhouse is modern and been designed to provide an informal atmosphere. Sandy Lodge Golf Club
Sandy Lodge Golf Club chose the current site primarily due to its sandy soil and excellent drainage. The course takes advantage of the area’s natural terrain while making use of heather, mounding, and strategically placed bunkers, challenging players of all ages and skill levels. The Club has continued to invest heavily in its main assets in recent years and has unrivalled practice facilities which include a 12 bay driving range, practice bunker, chipping areas and a large putting green, all of which are immediately in front of the Clubhouse. Sandy Lodge hosted the English Senior Womens' Championship in April 2014 and is a Regional Open Qualifying venue between 2015 and 2019.
The Hertfordshire Golf and Country Club

Berkhamsted Golf Club
The playing of golf on Berkhamsted Common began in 1880’s and with the Club being established in 1891, it has a fair claim to being Hertfordshire's oldest golf club. The reputation of the Club is founded on the unique nature of the course, which is entirely natural with no man-made hazards. It is a stern but fair test which, at the beginning of the golf season, has attracted the very best golfers to The Berkhamsted Trophy for over 60 years. The Club has a thriving social scene, and a relatively new purpose built Clubhouse. With extensive lounge, patio and bar facilities, Berkhamsted GC regularly hosts both members’ and guests’ functions.
The Shire London
Set within 220 acres of Hertfordshire countryside The Shire London is a unique course layout consisting of three distinctive styles; links, parkland and American. Offering six par 3's, six par 4's and six par 5's the masters course is a test for any level of ability. Alongside the championship golf course and contemporary clubhouse facilities The Shire London is home to the first Shire Academy. Harpenden Golf Club
Harpenden Golf Club, founded in 1894, is a private members club of approximately 800 members. Although the Club was established in 1894 the course has been on its present site at Hammonds End since 1931 when renowned golf architects of the time Messrs Frederic G Hawtree and John Henry Taylor were engaged to design and build a challenging 18 hole course in about 150 acres of rolling Hertfordshire countryside. A characteristic of their designs is front bunkering of greens so it pays to ensure that enough club is used on approach shots. A mature parkland course with ongoing investment ensures that it is one of the best in the county.
Welwyn Garden City Golf Club
Welwyn Garden City Golf Club was founded in 1923 and is the home Club of Sir Nick Faldo and European Tour player, Tom Lewis. The Club has the reputation for consistently providing members and guests with one of the best courses in Hertfordshire. It also offers excellent dining and drinking facilities, and a warm, friendly welcome. At 6,096 yards off the back tees, and in an undulating parkland setting, the course at first sight seems a relatively easy test of golf. With narrow fairways and small greens there are many scorecards that tell a different story.
Bushey Hall Golf Club
The oldest parkland golf course in Hertfordshire, established in 1890, Bushey Hall Golf Club in Watford, can be proud of its historic connections within the local golfing community. The 18 hole golf course is superbly designed and maintained, combining long par fives, short par threes and challenging par fours. Water, tree lines and undulating rough challenge low handicaps sufficiently, yet do not deter our less-experienced golf players. The practice putting area, chipping and short-game practice areas, are all ideal for sharpening up those finer points before your round. The course is ideally located in Herts, in easy range of Central and North London.
Trent Park Public Golf Course
Trent Park GC in Enfield offers exquisite views over beautifully maintained landscape and is one of the best examples of public or municipal London golf courses. The 18 hole public golf course designed by Hugh Stovin with help from Peter Allis and Clive Clark dates from 1974 measures 6216 yards in length and is a par 70. The clubhouse is a social hub and holds innumerable functions and events. From wedding receptions, civil weddings, civil partnerships, conferences and Christmas Parties to salsa, band and club nights - Club 19 - the function suite at Trent Park is an entertainment venue that caters for a wide catchment of North London.
East Herts Golf Club
East Herts Golf Club was founded in 1899 and is one of the oldest in the area. The course is renowned throughout Hertfordshire for its magnificent, ancient trees set in tranquil, rolling parkland around Hamels Mansion. A private members' club, East Herts welcomes visitors and societies to share the extensive facilities of a large restaurant, two bars, and a well stocked pro shop. A large balcony overlooks the Par 3 18th green and is a popular spot on warm days and evenings for that well earned drink.
Manor of Groves

The par 71, 6,237 yard layout has been subject to a large investment to improve the already fine design. Mill Green Golf Club
Set in over 200 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, Mill Green Golf Club combines an excellent golf course with hospitality and charm. Throughout the course, water features, large bunkers, trees and expansive greens combine to offer a challenging, as well as a most enjoyable golfing experience. The front nine, which plays towards the small village of Mill Green itself, is both open and undulating, and by comparison the back nine plays directly towards Hertford and is noted for its narrow fairways which work their way through ancient woodland and large lakes. Verulam Golf Club
Verulam Golf Club has a tradition steeped in the game of golf. Samuel Ryder, a wealthy St Albans seed merchant, Captain of the Club and prolific supporter of early professional golf, donated the Ryder Cup in 1926. Verulam's challenging par 72 course was designed by James Braid in 1905, with the club therefore now well into its second century, and situated in the heart of historic St Albans, known as Verulamium in Roman times. A mature and established parkland course, Verulam sets a premium on accuracy, with greens that are well protected by bunkers, slopes and mounds.
Whitehill Golf Club
Welcome to the finest rural golf course that Hertfordshire has to offer. Aldenham Golf and Country Club
Our Church Course opened in 1975 and has matured well over the years. We have many different tree species and lovely views over the neighbouring countryside. The 13th is our signature hole and was, for many years, the longest hole in Europe at 621 yards. An additional 9-hole course was opened in 1991 and is known as the Berry Grove Course. Both courses, green and lush in the spring and summer, fabulously coloured in the autumn, make for a delightful golfing environment. Societies and visitors are very welcome on both courses.
Aldwickbury Park Golf Club
Situated in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, Aldwickbury Park Golf Club boasts two magnificent Ken Brown designed golf courses. An 18 hole Champioship course and a 9 hole par 3 course. The Park Course offers a combination of mature woodland, undulating parkland, and lakes, that provides an array of challenges, enhanced by stunning views over the Lea Valley.
